About Sandwich Sudoku

Sandwich Sudoku is a twist on regular Sudoku with an extra challenge. In this version, each row and column has a "sandwich" clue that is placed outside the grid and indicates the sum of the numbers between the 1 and 9 in that line. This adds a new layer of logic and makes the puzzle a bit trickier to solve.

How to Play

  • Grid Size: The puzzle has 9x9 grid size made up of three 3x3 sub-grids.
  • Numbers: Each row, column, and 3x3 box must contain the digits 1 through 9.
  • No Repeats: Numbers in each row, columns and diagonals should appear only once without repetition.
  • Sandwich Clue: A number is placed outside each row and column. This number represents the sum of the digits between the 1 and 9 in that row or column.

Solving Tips and Techniques:

  • Start with Small Clue Numbers: If a sandwich clue is a small number (like 2 or 3), it usually has a simple solution. For example, if the clue is 2, it means that the 1 and 9 must be next to each other, with just one digit (2) between them.
  • Maximum Sum: The maximum sum possible for a row or column, excluding the 1 and 9, is 35 (2+3+4+5+6+7+8). This can help eliminate possibilities for certain cells.
  • Elimination: If a certain combination can't work because of other rules (like numbers already in the row or column), remove that option.
  • Look for Overlapping: Since each row, column, and 3x3 box must have the numbers 1 to 9 without repeats, check for areas where rows, columns, and boxes overlap. This can help you narrow down where certain numbers can go.
